Subspecies
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
- longicauda Salvadori, 1876 - North-western New Guinea (Vogelkop and Wandammen Mts).
- chloris Stresemann and Paludan, 1934 - West-central and south-western New Guinea.
- umbrosa Rand, 1941 - North-central New Guinea around R Idenburg.
- captata Mayr, 1931 - Mountains of central and north-eastern New Guinea, including Huon Peninsula.
- orientalis Mayr, 1931 - Mountains of south-eastern New Guinea.
