Black Lark (Melanocorypha yeltoniensis)

Armenia (NB), Azerbaijan, Georgia (NB), Iran [Islamic Republic of], Kazakhstan (B), Moldova [Republic of] (NB), Russia (Central Asian) (B) (NB), Russia (European) (B), Turkey (NB), Turkmenistan (NB), Ukraine (NB), Uzbekistan.

Vagrant to Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Mongolia, Poland, Sweden.

Breeds in south-western Russia and northern Kazakhstan from just west of R Volga east to L Zaysan, and south to northern shores of Caspian Sea, Aral Sea and just north of L Balkhash. Winters south to Black Sea region, Caucasus, northern Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and southern Kazakhstan.

Population
Estimated population is 50,000 - 420,000 (2010).

Status LC
Loss of steppe to cultivation and livestock farming is the main threat.
