Subtropical and tropical moist lowland forest. From sea-level - 500 m.

Subspecies
One of the small hermits sometimes separated in genus Pygmornis. Often considered a subspecies of Little Hermit (Phaethornis longuemareus), its closest relative, but sexual dimorphism and other morphological characters indicate that they should be treated as separate species.
