Subspecies
Chubb's Cisticola (Cisticola chubbi) and Brown-backed Cisticola (Cisticola discolor) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as separate species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include discolor as a subspecies of Chubb's Cisticola (Cisticola chubbi).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Chubb's Cisticola (Cisticola chubbi).
No subspecies.
