Subspecies
Formerly treated as subspecies of Mountain Caracara (Phalcoboenus megalopterus). Form superspecies with Mountain Caracara (Phalcoboenus megalopterus) and Carunculated Caracara (Phalcoboenus carunculatus), in which some authors also include Striated Caracara (Phalcoboenus australis). Possible hybrids with Mountain Caracara (Phalcoboenus megalopterus) have been reported.
