Subspecies
Possibly forms a superspecies with Cobalt-winged Parakeet (Brotogeris cyanoptera ) and Golden-winged Parakeet (Brotogeris chrysoptera ).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
jugularis (Müller, 1776) - South-western Mexico through Central America mostly on Pacific slope to northern Colombia and north-western Venezuela.
exsul Todd, 1917 - Eastern Colombia and western Venezuela.
