Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, temperate forest and shrubland.

Range (Guide)
Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Canada (B) (P), Cayman Islands, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Martinique, Mexico, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, USA (B), Venezuela, Virgin Islands (British) (NB), Virgin Islands (U.S.) (NB).

Vagrant to Greenland, Jamaica, St Pierre and Miquelon (P), United Kingdom.

Breeds in southern Canada (from Saskatchewan east to Nova Scotia), south through Great Lakes region to north-eastern USA (Minnesota east to New England) and south in Appalachians to northern Georgia and northern Alabama. Migrates to non-breeding grounds mainly from south-eastern Mexico south to Panama. A few winter in Caribbean.
 
Population
Estimated population is 9,400,000 (2010).
