Subspecies
No obvious close relatives. Tongue morphology unique within family, on which grounds this species may even merit placement in its own subfamily.
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
lisettae (Delacour, 1926) - Northern Myanmar, southern China (south-western Yunnan), northern Thailand and northern and central Indochina.
nuchale (Blyth, 1843) - Southern Myanmar, southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia.
mariae (Deignan, 1943) - Southern Indochina, including eastern Cambodia.
natunense (Chasen, 1935) - Northern Natuna Is.
hypogrammicum (Müller, S, 1843) - Sumatra and Borneo.
