Voice
A slow, trilling song, consisting of a slightly descending series of hollow and high-pitched 'cu' notes. Call is swift succession of 2-3 melodious 'fuí' notes, followed by a short, lower-pitched 'cuu'. Also single 'cuiu' call.

Subspecies
Hylopezus macularius (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Spotted Antpitta (Hylopezus macularius) and Masked Antpitta (Hylopezus auricularis) following SACC (2005).
Formerly treated as conspecific with Spotted Antpitta (Hylopezus macularius), but differs distinctly in plumage, voice and habitat.
