Subspecies
Genus often merged into Collocalia. Sometimes treated as forming a superspecies with Bare-legged Swiftlet (Aerodramus nuditarsus). Formerly considered conspecific with Whitehead's Swiftlet (Aerodramus whiteheadi). A specimen from Bougainville I was intermediate in size between nominate and subspecies leletensis and although some plumage details were rather different, it was provisionally thought to belong within this species.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- leletensis (Salomonsen, 1962) - Central New Ireland.
- orientalis (Mayr, 1935) - Guadalcanal (Solomon Is).
