Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
viscivorus Linnaeus, 1758 - Europe east to western Siberia and northern Iran. Non-breeding also northern Africa and south-western Asia.
deichleri Erlanger, 1897 - North-western Africa, Corsica and Sardinia.
bonapartei Cabanis, 1860 - Turkmenistan and south-central Siberia south to western Nepal and Altai. Non-breeding central and southern Asia.
