Subtropical and tropical moist lowland forest. From sea-level - 500 m.
Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname.
The Guianas and extreme north-eastern Amazonian Brazil (Amapá); also near Manaus.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Forms a superspecies with Mottle-cheeked Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes ventralis) and Yellow-green Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes flavovirens), all formerly treated as conspecific. Species Restinga Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes kronei) and Bahia Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes beckeri) (both recently described) apparently belong with this group.
