Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland seasonally wet / flooded grassland. From sea-level - 700 m.
Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela.
Vagrant to Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, USA.
Neotropical Region, from Mexico through central America and northern South America to northern Argentina and Uruguay.
 
Population
Estimated population is 10,000 - 25,000 (2010).
