Subspecies
Validity of subspecies intercedens, pallidior and canescens questionable, as all three occur along a 120-km stretch of the lower Amazon between Obidos and Santarém, and all remain virtually unknown.
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
schomburgki Sclater, PL, 1866 - Eastern Venezuela and the Guianas.
climacocerca (Tschudi, 1844) - South-eastern and eastern Colombia to southern Venezuela, and south to northern and eastern Bolivia.
intercedens Todd, 1937 - North-central Brazil: known only from type locality at Obidos in western Pará.
pallidior Todd, 1937 - North-central Brazil: known only from type locality at Santarém in western Pará.
canescens Griscom & Greenway, 1937 - North-central Brazil: known only from lower Tapajós in western Pará.
