Blue Mockingbird (Melanotis caerulescens) [XC499140]

Subspecies
Probably forms a superspecies with Blue-and-white Mockingbird (Melanotis hypoleucus) and was in the past sometimes considered conspecific, but this view based on aberrant specimens of subspecies longirostris.
Proposed subspecies effuticus (from western Mexico) generally regarded as indistinguishable from nominate.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
caerulescens (Swainson, 1827) - Western, eastern and southern Mexico (Sonora and south-eastern Chihuahua south to Oaxaca, and south-western Tamaulipas south to Puebla and western Veracruz).
longirostris Nelson, 1898 - Tres Marías Is, off western Mexico.
