Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China (mainland), India, Indonesia (B), Japan, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines (B), Taiwan (China), Thailand, Vietnam.

Vagrant to Afghanistan, Iran [Islamic Republic of], North Korea, Oman, Russia (Asian).

Unknown to United Arab Emirates.

Subspecies
Distantly related to the African Collared-dove (Streptopelia roseogrisea) group.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

tranquebarica (Hermann, 1804) - Sind and Punjab east to western Nepal, Bihar and Bengal, and south through peninsular India.
humilis (Temminck, 1824) - North-eastern Tibet, Nepal, Sikkim and Assam through Myanmar, Andaman Is, Thailand and Indochina to northern China, Taiwan and northern Philippines.
