Subspecies
Closely allied to Cloud Cisticola (Cisticola textrix ) and Black-necked Cisticola (Cisticola eximius ). Racial identity of population in south-eastern Gabon unknown and tentatively included in kasai .
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
kasai Lynes, 1936 - South-eastern Gabon, and southern DRCongo (north-western Kasai District).
dambo Lynes, 1931 - South-eastern DRCongo, eastern Angola and north-western Zambia.
