Subspecies
Frequently treated as a well-marked subspecies of Orange Ground-thrush (Geokichla gurneyi), in part owing to vocal similarity, but plumage differences militate in favour of full species status.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
crossleyi (Sharpe, 1871) - South-eastern Nigeria, Cameroon and southern PRCongo.
