Vagrant to Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Luxembourg, Malta, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Oman (NB), Portugal, Saudi Arabia (NB), Slovakia (Slovak Republic), Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates (NB), United Kingdom.

Breeds northern Russia from middle and upper R Pechora and Urals east to eastern Siberia (R Anadyr region and Sea of Okhotsk), south to north-eastern Altai, north-western Mongolia, Baikal Mts and north-eastern China; non-breeding north-eastern Indian Subcontinent east to south-eastern Asia and Taiwan.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Food
Mainly insects, including beetles and flies. Also some other small invertebrates.

Voice
A loud, piercing, often disyllabic "tseeweest". Song consists of a high-pitched medley of whistles.

Nest
Dome shaped with a side entrance, located in dense vegetation at the base of a tree or old stump.

Eggs (Guide)
2 - 4. Incubation: 11 - 14 days.

Young
Fledge in 12 - 13 days.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Phylloscopus inornatus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Yellow-browed Warbler (Phylloscopus inornatus) and Hume's Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus humei) following AERC TAC (2003) (see Sangster et al. 2002).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Yellow-breasted Warbler (Phylloscopus montis).
