Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
metopias (Reichenow, 1907) - Usambara Mts and Nguru Mts, in north-eastern Tanzania.
altus (Friedmann, 1927) - Uluguru Mts, in eastern Tanzania.
pallidus Ripley & Heinrich, 1966 - Mountains of south-central Tanzania and northern Mozambique (Njesi Plateau).
