Habitat
Rocky hillsides and ravines with shrubby vegetation cover, edges of vegetated lava flows, dry and flowing watercourses, cultivated areas, rural gardens. From sea-level - 800 m.
Spain (B) (NB).
Fuerteventura, in eastern Canary Is.
 
Population
Estimated population is 1,000 - 2,499 (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat degradation, over-grazing, nest predation by feral cats and other introduced mammals appear to be the main threats.

Has been treated as a subspecies of Common Stonechat (Saxicola torquatus ).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
dacotiae (Meade-Waldo, 1889) - Canary Islands.
murielae ! Bannerman, 1913 - Formerly Canary Is. (Montaņa Clara and Allegranza). Extinct.
