Habitat
Primary and secondary forest, including mangroves, durian plantations and peatswamp forest. From sea-level - 1,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Brunei Darussalam (B), Indonesia (B), Malaysia (B), Myanmar (B), Singapore (B), Thailand (B).

Southern Myanmar (southern Tenasserim), southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia to Sumatra and Borneo and several of their satellite islands.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat loss and degradation through illegal logging and conversion to agriculture, hunting are the main threats.

Subspecies
Sometimes combined with Black-bellied Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus diardi), Green-billed Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus tristis) and Blue-faced Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus viridirostris) in a separate genus Rhopodytes. Bornean population sometimes separated subspecifically as smaller minor, but overlaps with birds elsewhere in range.
