Voice
A shrill 'pee-whit' uttered in flight. Also a descending 'pee-yew', a high-pitched 'whit' and a high-pitched musical trill.

In a hollow of a tree, sometimes lined with down and some feathers.

Eggs (Guide)
6 - 9; pearly white; oval; about 48 x 35 mm. Incubation: by female.

Young
Precocial, nidifugous.

Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

coromandelianus (Gmelin, 1789) - Tropical south-east Asia from Pakistan, China and India, through Malaysia, Philippines to northern New Guinea.
albipennis Gould, 1842 - Eastern coast of Queensland, Australia.
