Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Chestnut-breasted Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus curvirostris), the two sometimes placed in a separate genus Rhamphococcyx.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
calyorhynchus (Temminck, 1825) - Northern, eastern and south-eastern Sulawesi and Togian Is.
meridionalis Meyer, AB & Wiglesworth, 1896 - Central and southern Sulawesi.
