Habits
Solitary or in small groups. Flight is slow and flicks tail for a while after landing.
Voice
A deep barking 'woof' that may be repeated. Also a parrot-like squawk and quieter cooing notes.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Chestnut-bellied Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula brenchleyi), Vanuatu Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula bakeri) and New Caledonian Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula goliath). This group also shows some affinities with the Pinon's Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula pinon) species-group.
