Habitat
Rocky hills, cliffs and dry savanna. From sea-level - 2,200 m.

Range (Guide)

Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], C�te dIvoire, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania [United Republic of], Togo, Uganda.

Vagrant to Djibouti, Gambia.

Senegambia east through northern Cameroon and Sudan to Red Sea coast of Ethiopia, south to north-eastern Zaire, north-western Kenya and north-eastern Uganda.

Population
Estimated population is 1,000 - 10,000 (2010).

A high-pitched screech. Usually silent outside of breeding season.

Nest
In a hole or crevice, unlined, on a cliff or on a ledge. Sometimes in loose colonies.

Subspecies
Possibly forms superspecies with Greater Kestrel (Falco rupicoloides), but quite different in ecology and proportions.
