Habitat
Temperate forest. From sea-level - 3,900 m.

Azerbaijan (NB), Bahrain (NB), Bhutan, China (mainland) (B), Iran [Islamic Republic of] (NB), Iraq (NB), Kazakhstan (B), Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan (NB) (P), Mongolia (B), Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, Russia (Asian) (B), Russia (Central Asian) (B), Russia (European) (B), Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan.

Vagrant to Afghanistan, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Netherlands Antilles, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Yemen.

South-central Siberia (eastern Altai and Baikal area) south to northern Mongolia and north-western China. Non-breeding north-eastern Indian Subcontinent east to southern China and north-eastern Myanmar.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Often treated as conspecific with Black-throated Thrush (Turdus atrogularis). Taxonomic separation based on several very different phenotypic characters and considerable vocal differences, but the two intergrade over wide area. Further study is required.
