South-western Europe and north-western Africa through eastern Europe, Asia Minor and Caucasus to central Asia, north-east to Mongolia and L Baikal area, and south-east to northern India; also Cape Province (southern South Africa), and perhaps Namibia. Winters mostly in Africa south of Sahara, and in southern Asia, especially India.
