Vagrant to Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Croatia (Local Name: Hrvatska), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary (NB), Italy, Mali, Netherlands Antilles, Niger, Nigeria, North Korea, Norway, Poland, Slovakia (Slovak Republic), Somalia, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia.

• orientalis Cabanis, 1854   -  South-eastern European Russia east to L Balkhash and eastern Kazakhstan, or perhaps to Tien Shan and Altai. Winters in Middle East, Arabia and eastern and southern Africa.
• nipalensis Hodgson, 1833   -  Altai and Tibet east to Manchuria. Winters in southern Asia.
