Habitat
Humid lowland forest, predominantly terra firme (with no flooding), but also várzea (seasonally flooded forest). Usually below 900 m, but up to 1,300 m.
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela.
Southern and north-eastern Venezuela and adjacent northern Guyana, occasionally on Trinidad; disjunct in eastern Colombia; then from eastern Ecuador and eastern Peru to northern Bolivia; and Amazonian Brazil from R Aripuaní east to R Tocantins, with a single record from Manaus. It is not known whether the apparent gaps in this range are genuine.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).
Status VU
Habitat destruction through deforestation as land is cleared for cattle ranching and soy production, and possibly hunting, are the main threats.
