Subspecies
Previously considered a subspecies of Coqui Francolin (Peliperdix coqui). Forms superspecies with Coqui Francolin (Peliperdix coqui) and White-throated Francolin (Peliperdix albogularis). Recently proposed reorganization of Francolinus places present species in genus Peliperdix with Coqui Francolin (Peliperdix coqui), White-throated Francolin (Peliperdix albogularis), Forest Francolin (Peliperdix lathami) and Crested Francolin (Dendroperdix sephaena).
