Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest.
Indonesia (B), Papua New Guinea (B).

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Voice
Vocal. Often calls with a sharp, trilling contact call while feeding.
Subspecies
Subspecies fuscicapilla poorly differentiated, and possibly better merged with meyeri. Birds from Mt Goliath (in Oranje Range) described as subspecies montana, but very similar to south-eastern New Guinea population of meyeri and synonymized with latter.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
- fulvigula (Schlegel, 1871) - Mountains of Vogelkop and
Onin Peninsula (Fakfak Mts), in north-western New Guinea.
- meyeri (Salvadori, 1896) - Central Ranges from Weyland
Mts east, including Foja Mts and North Coastal Range (Bewani Mts), to SE
New Guinea (including Mt Bosavi).
- fuscicapilla Mayr, 1931 - Mountains of Huon Peninsula,
in north-eastern New Guinea.
- montana Mayr, 1931 - Mts. of central New Guinea (Weyland Mts. to Wharton Range).
