Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with White-chinned Myzomela (Myzomela albigula), Rio de Janeiro Greenlet (Hylophilus thoracicus), Ashy Myzomela (Myzomela cineracea) and Dusky Myzomela (Myzomela obscura). Often treated as conspeciefic with Ashy Myzomela (Myzomela cineracea).
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
- eques (Lesson & Garnot, 1827) - West Papuan Is
(Waigeo, Salawati, Misool) and north-western New Guinea (Vogelkop and Onin
Peninsula).
- primitiva Stresemann & Paludan, 1932 - Northern New Guinea
from Geelvink Bay east to Astrolabe Bay.
- nymani Rothschild & Hartert, 1903 - Southern and
eastern New Guinea (eastern from Vogelkop-Mimika R on southern coast and from Huon
Gulf on northern coast).
- karimuiensis Diamond, 1967 - Karimui, in Eastern
Highlands (eastern New Guinea).
