Costa Rica (B) (NB).

Pacific coast of Costa Rica from Gulf of Nicoya to Gulf of Dulce.

Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation through construction of salinas and shrimp ponds, and selective logging for charcoal production, are the main threats.

Subspecies
Genus sometimes lumped into Agyrtria. These two usually merged into Amazilia. Alternatively placed in Lepidopyga. Forms a superspecies with Honduran Emerald (Amazilia luciae).

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Snowy-breasted Hummingbird (Amazilia edward) has a sharp contrast between green and white underparts and much rustier tail. Female White-bellied Emerald (Amazilia candida) has a blacker tail and more green on chest.
