Habitat
Tall rainforest, and adjacent secondary growth on the forest edge. From sea-level - 1,200 m.

Range (Guide)

Costa Rica (B) (NB), Panama (B) (NB).

Pacific slope of Costa Rica (north to around R��o Grande de T�rcoles) and adjacent south-western Panama (western Chiriqu��).

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through forest clearance is the main threat.

Nest
A rounded, unlined chamber with an ascending tunnel, 2 - 5 m up in a large decaying trunk.

Eggs (Guide)
Clutch Size: 2 - 3
Incubation: 16 - 17 days

Young
Fledge: about 25 days

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Green-backed Trogon (Trogon viridis), Citreoline Trogon (Trogon citreolus) and Black-headed Trogon (Trogon melanocephalus) and sometimes considered conspecific with Green-backed Trogon (Trogon viridis), differing from subspecies chionurus of which mainly in belly colour and female's undertail pattern, with habits and vocalizations rather similar.
