Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

australis Swann, 1922 - North-western Venezuela (M�rida Andes) through western South America south to Tierra del Fuego.
melanoleucus (Vieillot, 1819) - Southern and eastern Brazil (Alagoas, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo) to Paraguay, eastern Argentina (north of Buenos Aires) and Uruguay.
