Habitat
Semiopen areas along large rivers. From sea-level - 150 m.
Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru.
Extreme south-eastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, north-eastern Peru and extreme north-western Brazil.

Voice
Song is a 'fee-tju', the first note very high-pitched.
Subspecies
Formerly placed in genus Talaphorus, alone or with Spot-throated Hummingbird (Leucippus taczanowskii), sometimes also with Many-spotted Hummingbird (Taphrospilus hypostictus).
No subspecies.
