Subspecies

The following 6 subspecies are recognised:

  • minus (Hartert, E, 1898)   -  Eastern Honduras to northern Colombia (lower Cauca Valley).
  • platyrhynchum (Leadbeater, 1829)   -  West of Andes from north-western Colombia to south-western Ecuador (El Oro).
  • colombianum Meyer de Schauensee, 1950   -  Lowlands north of Andes in northern Colombia.
  • pyrrholaemum (von Berlepsch & Stolzmann, 1902)   -  East of Andes from Colombia (southern Meta, Caquetá) south through eastern Ecuador and Peru to Bolivia (Cochabamba, Santa Cruz).
  • orienticola Oberholser, 1921   -  Upper Amazonian Brazil (western Amazonas, Acre).
  • chlorophrys Miranda-Ribeiro, 1931   -  Northern Brazil south of Amazon (in eastern Amazonas, Pará, Mato Grosso, northern Goiás).
