Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- brasiliensis (Gmelin, 1789) - Eastern Colombia, northern and eastern Venezuela, Guyana and northern and central Brazil.
- ipecutiri (Vieillot, 1816) - Eastern Bolivia and southern Brazil to northern Argentina and Uruguay.
