Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Black Guan (Chamaepetes unicolor).
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
- goudotii (Lesson, 1828) - Andes of central and western Colombia.
- sanctaemarthae Chapman, 1912 - Santa Marta Mts, northern Colombia.
- fagani Chubb, C, 1917 - Western slope of Andes in south-western Colombia and Ecuador.
- tschudii Taczanowski, 1886 - Eastern slope of Andes in southern Colombia, Ecuador and northern Peru.
- rufiventris (Tschudi, 1843) - Eastern slope of Andes in central Peru.
