Subspecies
Sometimes treated as conspecific with Afghan Snowfinch (Pyrgilauda theresae), but significant plumage differences.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

ventorum Stegmann, 1932 - North-western China from south-eastern Xinjiang (Altun Shan) east to north-western Qinghai.
barbata Przewalski, 1887 - North-central China (eastern Qinghai).
blanfordi (Hume, 1876) - Tibetan Plateau from southern Qinghai south to eastern Ladakh, northern Nepal and Sikkim.
