Dresser, 1905

Habitat
Dense deciduous scrub above the treeline, particularly around stands of willow (Salix spp.), sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) and prickly oak (Quercus spp.), and the edges of coniferous and mixed forests. From 2,700 - 4,600 m.

Population
Estimated population is 120,000 (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through deforestation is the main threat.

Subspecies
Proposed subspecies lumsdeni, described from Le La, on south-eastern Xizang border with Arunachal Pradesh (north-eastern India), is merged with nominate.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

jomo (Vaurie, 1955) - Gyangze region (north of eastern Nepal-western Bhutan), in southern Xizang (China).
waddelli Dresser, 1905 - Lhasa region and Lh�nzhub east to R Yi'ong Zangbo and south to Lh�nze (on upper R Subansiri), in south-eastern Xizang.
lumsdeni Kinnear, 1938 - North-eastern Tibet (on border with Qinghai).
