Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest, temperate forest. From 300 - 2,000 m.

Bangladesh (NB), Bhutan (B), China (mainland) (NB), India (B) (NB), Laos (B) (NB) (P), Myanmar (NB), Nepal (B) (NB), Thailand (NB).

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Has sometimes been treated as conspecific with Sulphur-breasted Warbler (Phylloscopus ricketti). Subspecies pernotus considered by some authors to be indistinguishable from nominate. Further study is required.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

  • cantator (Tickell, 1833)   -  Breeds eastern Nepal, Bhutan, north-eastern India (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, northern Cachar) and south-eastern Bangladesh, possibly also northern Myanmar. Non-breeding eastern Nepal east to north-eastern India, south to Myanmar, north-western Thailand and north-western Laos.
  • pernotus Bangs & van Tyne, 1930   -  Northern and central Laos.
