Habitat
Temperate grassland. From 3,900 - 5,000 m.

Range (Guide)
Bangladesh, Bhutan, China (mainland), India, Nepal.

Vagrant to Myanmar.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Has sometimes been treated as conspecific with Dusky Warbler (Phylloscopus fuscatus).

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

  • fuligiventer (Hodgson, 1845)   -  Breeds Himalayas of central Nepal and south-western China (southern Xizang), Sikkim and Bhutan. Non-breeding adjacent foothills and northern and north-eastern India.
  • tibetanus Ticehurst, 1937   -  Breeds Himalayas of eastern Nepal and south-western China (south-eastern Xizang). Non-breeding north-eastern India (Arunachal Pradesh and northern Assam).
  • weigoldi Stresemann, 1923   -  Breeds western-central China (southern Qinghai and eastern Xizang east to north-western Sichuan). Non-breeding Himalayan foothills of Nepal east to north-eastern India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur), Bangladesh, Andaman Is and northern Myanmar. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Dusky Warbler (Phylloscopus fuscatus).
