Subspecies
Genus sometimes merged into Luscinia, occasionally into Erithacus. Geographically remote subspecies formosanus distinctive, possibly better treated as a separate species, particularly if shown to differ vocally. The taxonomic assessment, however, complicated by fact that this subspecies thought to have hybridized with Collared Bush-Robin (Tarsiger johnstoniae).
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
indicus (Vieillot, 1817) - Central and eastern Himalayas.
yunnanensis Rothschild, 1922 - Southern China (western Sichuan south to northern Yunnan), northern Myanmar and northern Vietnam (western Tonkin).
