Subspecies
Genus sometimes merged into Luscinia , occasionally into Erithacus .
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
whistleri Ticehurst, 1922 - North-western Himalayas.
chrysaeus Hodgson, 1845 - Central and eastern Himalayas east to central China (south-eastern Xizang, east to southern Shaanxi, south to northern and western Yunnan) and western and northern Myanmar. Non-breeding also northern India and south to northern Thailand.
