Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist montane forest.

Range (Guide)

Bhutan, Cambodia, China (mainland), India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand.

Central and eastern Himalayas (central Nepal east to Bhutan), north-eastern India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland), southern China (eastern Qinghai, south-eastern Gansu and Shaanxi south to south-eastern Xizang, Sichuan and Yunnan) and west, northern and eastern Myanmar. Non-breeding also central and southern Myanmar east to northern and central Laos.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

hodgsoni (Verreaux, 1871) - Himalayas to eastern India and Southeast Asia.
sondaica (Robinson & Kloss, 1923) - Mountains of Thailand, Malaya, Sumatra and Borneo.
