Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, temperate forest. From sea-level - 1,100 m.
China (mainland), Hong Kong (China), Japan, North Korea (B), Russia (Asian), South Korea, Taiwan (China), Vietnam.
South-eastern Russia (south-eastern Siberia, Ussuriland), Manchuria and northern Korea. Non-breeding south-eastern China and northern Indochina.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Has been thought to form a superspecies with Tickell's Thrush (Turdus unicolor ) and Black-breasted Thrush (Turdus dissimilis ). Formerly considered conspecific with Black-breasted Thrush (Turdus dissimilis ).
