Lowland central, eastern and south-eastern China from southern Gansu and Shaanxi east to Liaoning, Hebei and Shandong, south to Sichuan, Yunnan, Hainan I, Guangdong and Fujian, Taiwan (including small island of Kinmen, off Fujian), and Vietnam (lowland eastern Tonkin south to central Annam).
 
Population
Estimated population is 10,000 - 19,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat destruction and food-source illimination through agricultural intensification, particularly the excessive use of pesticides and rodenticides, is the main threat.

Voice
Calls include a loud repeated "kaaarr" or "kaar-karr" as well as various cawing creaking and clicking sounds.

Formerly known as central. torquatus, but that name invalid, as preoccupied. Possibly part of the superspecies formed by Carrion Crow (Corvus corone) and Hooded Crow (Corvus cornix).
