South-eastern Altai and L Baikal to Mongolia; winters mostly in southern Asia.

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Caspian Gull (Larus cachinnans).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Yellow-legged Gull (Larus michahellis).
